Ram OCing question

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and didn't see it.

I have an AMD 64 3000+ and 1gb of Corsair Value Select PC3200. I was wondering what is better for the A64's memory speed or timings. Is it better to be running at 240mhz CAS 3 or 220mhz CAS 2.5

Thanks in advance for the help.

I imagine it depends on the app. Do some benchmarks of the stuff you use and find out.

The diference will be quite small, I'd be surprised if you could tell a difference between the two in any real application (i.e. not a benchmark)

Edit:
This shows your situation almost exactly:

218 is what your memory speed really is (2403 / 11)
Based on that I'd say 240 by a hair because in those tests the 218 is at CAS2 and you're at 2.5, so your 218 will be slightly slower.

But you can see how slight the difference is there. about 0.5% in Wolfenstein ET and less than 0.2% in Q3. Not worth spending too much time on.

I'd go with the higher memory speed, rather than adjusting the timings. Get the highest speed you can, and then adjust the timings from there.
