I new guy here, I am looking to get a new i7 computer and have a question about the amount of RAM sticksthat can be loaded. Does the RAM need to be in multiples of 3? ie putting in 4GB RAM or 5 GM RAM would not work and I would need to go with either 3GB or 6 GB.

Thanks!

multiples of 3 for triple channel to work optimally. I would grab a 3x2gb kit.

chances are you won't really need the memory bandwidth of the triple channel offerings, but part of the purpose of ddr3 is the triple channel bandwidth optimization...

there's nothing wrong with putting 4GB in there at all.

Good advice so far in this thread! One thing to keep in mind that many of the triple-channel kits were made for the i7 and (generally) have lower voltages than most of the dual-channel kits. Both will work great, but the lower voltages are more ideal for the i7 unless you plan to really up the voltage for the CPU as well to keep them in the .5 to .6 range of one another.
