ok what does the ram latency stand for and how is higher latency better/worse?

is 3-8-4-4 bad

My ram (2x256 Corsair XMS series PC3700) should be able to produce lower timing right?

I have a P4 2.4C and ABIT IC7-MAX3 so i should be able to run it lower(faster) right?

What would be an optimal setting for my ram on my system?

Low timings = Better.

The fastest timings available are 2-2-2-5 But most en up running 2-3-2-6 and what not...

At 3700 speed you will not reach anything near 2-2-2-5 you will most likely be running 2-3-3-7 or 2.5-3-3-6.. Somewhere in there..

However, if you run lower speeds such as PC3500 you can then lower your timings.

You can also run a divider on your 2.4c

Running a 275 FSB on the 5:4 divider. Only running @ a 220 FSB ( just about PC 3500 ) thus allowing you to run faster timings.

Running that QDR 1100mhz FSB...
