If I put the 2 Corsair sticks, my computer shows DDR400 and CL2.5 which is fine.

The moment I put in the 3rd stick (Ultra), when the computer boots, it says DDR333, CL3.

The Ultra stick is rated PC3200, CL3.

Is the Ultra stick crap?

THe Corsair sticks are dual channel, and Ultra is single channel (I think - as it does not say Dual channel.) I have a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra Mobo.

Thanks.

Ok!
So I read up the documentation for Chaintech VNF4 Ultra Mobo, and I read this fineprint:

"Due to CPU specifications limitation, two DDR400 memory modules inserted into DIMM1/3, three DDR400 into DIMM1/2/3 or four DDR400 into DIMM1/2/3/4 is not recommended."

I have an Athlon 64 X2 4200+.

I guess due to the above limitation, I cannot plug in 3x512MB modules and that is why probably when the system boots up, it shows DDR333 and not 400.

That is pretty weird though -- when I bought the mobo, it clearly said supports DDR DIMMs upto 4 GB.

Can anybody explain it to me what CPU specifications limitation they are talking about?

Thanks.

cpu memory controller speed limitation, in order to achieve stability with 3 module the speed must be dropped

I know this late, but I emailed chaintech support , they replied that I could use 4@512 ddr 400 in all 4 slots however they didn,t mention to me that it would drop the speed down to 333, but hey if you get it working let me know.

Drop CPU multiplier and overclock the HTT...wouldn't that get it up to 400 speeds?
