Which model do you have ? the SODIMM should be on bottom, just plug in, they wont even know.. unless it's one you have to take apart... i upgrade mine with crucial, one came with crucial and the other came with hyundai..
I believe that Dell shouldn't have problems with you if you send off your unit (when it needs warranty services) as long as the Crucial SoDIMM module is removed before shipping.
I upgraded my Dell Latitude CPtS to 256mb (PC100 Micron brand) RAM a month ago. Installing the RAM is a piece of cake - just remove the readily accessible panel on the bottom of the laptop. The RAM SODIMM snaps right in! I ordered my RAM from the DELL page since it was relatively inexpensive ~ $57 for 128MB. I never considered how this would affect my warranty since it is a DELL part.
