RAM for Asus Rampage Formula

I am getting average results with Corsair 800 MHZ, my system is not very stable, I'm running Crysis W on high specs but low res since my display is 19" only and still the game crashes after an hour or so.

I tried with the stock settings for both the CPU and the DRAM ( I never touched the GPU's ) and it's the same story. I can run it on Enthusiast with 8x AA and I'm getting low Fps only for a few secs during the Adapt or Perish level but the same thing happens after an hour or so.

I'm out of ideas....

Have you tried to run memtest86+ to see if it's your memory (I assume that's why you posted in the mem/storage forum)? It's kinda silly to do anything drastic (like buy new ram) before you narrow down the problem to the ram you already have.

I agree, I think you need to do more troubleshooting before you run out and buy stuff.

I guess I'll have to do it! Thanks guys

Crysis and Crysis Warhead are still bugged. I would not use them to determine if your system is stable or if your RAM is bad.

If you are concerned about the memory, run Memtest for 3-5 passes on each stick individually. You'll need to disable Legacy USB Support in the BIOS to run this test.

Also, list the COMPLETE info from the stickers on your memory. Are you running the proper voltage for the memory?

I haven't got the chance to run the memtest yet, I will do it over the week-end, I can tell you the voltage I'm using is 2,2 V for the DRAM, 1,45 V for the CPU. The FSB is set to 456 and the multiplier is 8. I've been reading the threads posted here and I found some of the above values to be high, especially since I'm running on fans only.

I noticed the core temps are similar with idle system but with PRIME 95 during the first hour ( with the comp on stock settings, AI set for high performance) the second core was showing 44-45 degrees while the others recorded temps of 53-57 degrees. I don't know if that's normal or not and I will run the test again with the CPU @ 3,65 MHZ, Dram @ 912 to see the real "damage". I guess I'll get error within the first hour or so.

I've seen the guide posted for overclocking and I must say it's exactly what I need since I know little abt the whole thing and I'll try to set the system to the proper values before I'm changing the RAM anyway. I was concerned abt the timings though, various threads I've read see the timings my Ram has as poor. I dont know if I can temper with them and I would prefer a stock RAM with better timings - pls correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me know how the Memtesting goes. You have what looks like a pretty decent OC if you can get it stable. And in this case, the only real reason you should buy different aka faster RAM is if you think the memory is holding back your OC. It could be your CPU or memory.

In case you don't know, Yellowbeard is a Corsair rep and is wise in all things Corsair. In other words...He's the Man!

LOL.....you are too generous. You did get the Corsair Rep part right though......😀

I've done only one run for all nine standard tests and it gave me no errors. It may be the high voltage on the CPU that's creating issues. My core temps reach 77-78 degrees when running prime95

It was at 1,45 v and currently at 1,431 but also the FSB is lower @ 438. It seems I can't go beyond 400 FSB without a volatge higher than 1,4 v but I could be mistaken

well it's just me then. I don't know the difference between the CPU voltage and the VID voltage( vcore?). Anyway with the CPU V set to the values I've stated previously the Cpu-z reports a VID OF 1.25 v .What should I make out of this?
