Im building a new system and im tossing up on ram. Is expensive ram really worth it? Im going to be using an Asus P4P800 mobo with a intel 2.4C processor with 2 sticks of DDR400 512mb ram.

How much would i be able to overclock it up to stably using stock cooling? If i used Samsung Ram, how much would i be able to clock it up to and if i used Corsair ram, how much would i be able to clock it up to?

Samsung ram sticks for DDR400 with 512mb is roughly HK$660 or US$84.62

Corsair ram is double that price

Is it really worth it?

Also, if i plan to go overclocking, what kind of wattage power supply do i need?
I calculated that if i ran everything at stock speeds, i would need at least 325W. What kind of power demand increase would i have to expect if i OCed the CPU to it's max stable speed and OCed my R9800np to R9800pro clock speeds?

i'd say anything above 350 or 400 shold be fine..

but it's not quantity.. it's quality

the most recommended are the antec truepower... allied true 400W or the fortron 350W+

the last two can be had for ~$35 from newegg (both are great)

as for RAM, corsair and kingston hyperX are both good stuff

What's that? Ive never seen it. I live in Hong Kong, so i cant really order it from those websites. It'll cost me a hellava lot of cash for shipping over here. The cheapest stick of DDR400, 512mb ram is at HK$578, which is US$74.10 by some weird company I've never heard of called ACE.

Edit: Oh, so you're saying the Hyper-X ram is from Kingston, that shouldnt be too hard to get.
Power isnt going to exceed 350W even if everything is OCed?

depends on what PSU you have, if its a good one 350 should be fine..
and yes, hyperx is a kingston product

But it's too damn expensive :(

It's like HK$850, which i would have to end up spending HK$1700 on ram, takes me out to around $8000 for the whole system.

I wont be OCing the system straight off, i think i might be doing that when i find my comp lacking. So i thought the corsair ram was good for an upgrade when i do OC the CPU.

So the Hyper X is better than the corsair?

well if the corsair is cheaper than by all means go for corsair. corsair and hyperx are about the same so whichever one is cheaper should be the one you get.
