The premium you paid was for the fancy heat spreader that is worth virtually NIL. Just like a rare car, anniversary RAM is a limited production product and once production ceases, no new units will be available for replacement when it breaks. In other words, that fancy Mercedes Gull Wing you wrecked will need to be replaced with a lesser value SLR or S600.

What you paid is almost irrelevant, all technology looses value at a very RAPID rate. Yesterdays $1,100 Extreme Edition Processor is tomorrows budget Celeron. Two to Three years ago, 1 GB of ram (512 x 2) would have cost you $400+ (USD) and if it were sent in under a warranty RMA, they would in return send you a part valued at less than $70 (USD). Get used to and understand the fact that none of this stuff is worth anything after a small period of time.

that's besides the point they were charging me for 10th anniversary and sending me non-10th anniversary but still charging me for the cost of the 10th anniversary memory. I received my memory today so I am back to 2GB weird thing is the 10th anniversary heat spreader was on it. I just need to send my memory back and they will refund me the money it's just the fact that they charged my card with way more than the memory was actually worth. I should be getting a call from them within 24hrs.

so right now I am so so with them depending on what they do to get this issue fixed will name there final outcome. all I know is the agents that I spoke to were very irritating they kept saying stuff over and over again and saying irrelevant stuff like in the message. I may be hesitant to buy memory from them again.

I don't see the big deal. Provided you send the memory back before your credit card invoice comes in, the price they used won't matter. Obviously, I agree that they shouldn't have used that price, but provided you could pay it if you had to, I don't think its worth all this trouble considering they will just credit that price back to you.

If you don't have the money to pay it off...then I see the big reason to complain.

The alternative is to dispute the charges with the credit card company.

Second, what is the difference if it's the special edition ram? Not like your computer will be happier because you gave it some sort of rare "special ram" as far as it's concerned it would be just as happy with value ram. it was a silly decision (in my opinion) to fall for the tenth anniversary RAM marketing gimmick to begin with. The only winner in that deal was Crucial and the looser was your wallet.

That's how cross-shipping works. It just means you're out of pocket for the original price until they get the memory back. Am I missing something? :/

the ram that was made during that time had good overclocking performance which is why I wanted it. not the fact that it was crucials special edition 10th anniversary

I agree with you on the credit charges. I don't think I'd have pushed the point as far as you did, but it was still a valid complaint. I also think they should have sent you some bonus stuff since they didn't have 10th anniversary ram to replace yours with. It may seem stupid to some, but I'd like to have the ram with the limited heat spreaders, overclocking potential aside. It's just a geek collectors item.

To help make it right, it would have been nice to send Woot a t shirt, case badges, stickers, and that kind of thing. Technically they don't have to, but that's how you build brand loyalty, and it would help make up for getting standard ram in place of his limited edition ram.

I had the same thing happen to me. My 10th Anni's died. Did a ton of research and found that the P5B-D and the Anni's will create a scenario where at the beginning your Anni's will boot up at the stock voltage of 1.8 and you can then get into the BIOS and change it up to or past 2.2. But then after a while your RAM will only boot at 2.2 or higher. In my case I would have to be at 2.35v or more to even POST. I had to keep switching out for elcheapo RAM just to get to BIOS.

Long story short, I decided to RMA 'em. I called em this morning and set it all up. They at first said they were out of the Anni's and they would send me the Ballistix that had the same timings. I was semi comfortable with this due to your posts above. I started to throw a bunch of questions at the Rep and he couldn't answer a lot of them and wanted to send me back to tech support. They all were very nice and it almost surprised me. He then told me that after some looking around that they still had some Anni's left that he could exchange them with. I of course proceeded to ask if thye were new and if they were the same chip and so on. He assured me they were and I now have them on cross shipment. He said they would have to charge my credit card for their price. As he was totaling it up he said:
"thats too much to charge you, I will charge you $76 a stick which is what the Ballistix go for right now"
Again, I was surprised due to the earlier post.

So I will get the new Anni's in the mail soon and let you guys know how they go and if they are the same Micron D9.

I was very happy with the support and was glad to not have to jump through hoops like some of you did. Maybe they read your posts ;) and decided to fix there service?

cheers

I want proper 10th Anniversary ones, not the golden yellow ballistix :(. Blue & Silver heatspreaders are superior.

haha! I got the blue anniversary heat spreaders too :p I just sent my sticks off today as sad as that is! I was really busy with a recent move. I received an email saying I had 10 more days before my RMA # would be deleted.

You must be overclocking.

I did before but with this second set I didn't because I thought that may of been the reason.

Maybe it's not the memory that is bad, but the memory controller was damaged by overclocking. Perhaps one of the two controllers is damaged. Try putting both DIMMS on the same Channel, relax the memory timings to as high as they go, cut the FSB back, and see if the motherboard posts with two dimms on memory channel one with no dimms on channel two.
