Ram cut in half on new board!?!?!

JBT

Lifer
I just recently bought an MSI KT3 ulrtra 2 I have a stick of 256 MB PC2100 ddr ram thought i bought from crucial about a year ago. I had it on a old ECS board trhat supported DDR and SD after awhile the DDR slot died on the board so I switched to a stick of Kingston 256 PC133 ram. I wasn't sure if it was the old mother board or the ram that died so i checked it on a friends machine and and booted fine said it was 256 MB of DDR and all that just a few days ago.

Now I that i have the MSI board i put the DDR in there and it boots fine but it says it is only 128 MB in the bios and in all CPU info programs. Why is it only seeing half the ram??? Please help me out with this I am getting really annoyed running Win 2K with 128 =( Thanks for all the help in advance.

JBTele, have you tried the stick of RAM in a differnt memory slot on your MSI MB?

I tried the Bios update but it was only for improved compatiblity with SCSI cards. Not quite my problem...... but anyone else got any ideas ? I'm stumped.

They never put all of the fixes in the description for bios updates. It would probably be a good idea to upgrade it.

After Awhile of running the Ram I noticed that sometimes my system would actaully boot up with 256 but it wasn't as stable so I'm guessing it is a bad ram stick I guess I will have to call up crucial about that....

Sounds like a bad stick. I have one that did the same exact thing that I RMA'd. New stick works fine.
