RAM compatibility question

OK... I've found some generic brand RAM online. Its a 256MB DDR stick for 21.xx with shipping. That is about what my budget will allow and it is CAS 3... is there any possible way that I could run it on my motherboard even though in my BIOS, only CAS latencies 2.5, and 2 are options... if I was to install the RAM, would it automatically Overclock to CAS 2.5 to match the BIOS' requirements? Your help would be greatly appreciated since I sure don't want to have to endure the process of sending back incompatible RAM.

128 MB DDR PC2100 RAM
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 Mb
1600+ Athlon XP
latest Award BIOS flash
 
Odd that the motherboard doesn't have CL3 settings. It may not run at all if you set the memory controller to auto-detect the speeds. It probably will run just fine at CL2.5 manual settings though.

If you can afford like 10 to 15 dollars more, you can get Kingston CL2.5 from Newegg, 34 dollars and free shipping (model KVR266X64C25/256). I'd say that's a better deal, since if the other stuff doesn't work, you're out 20 bucks and still have to buy more.
 
Thanks for the help, man. I'm going to get the CAS3 RAM and see if it works... there is a 15% restocking fee if it doesn't, but I'm willing to take that chance. I was also thinking that manually running at 2.5 would force the memory to run at that speed, sort of like a small overclock... hopefully it will work.
