I just got a rig that has 4 DIMM slots. Two have 512s. Can I put 2x1G in the other two slots for 3G, or do I have to either have one or four G? I dl'd the mobo manual but the file was damaged and now the site is inaccessible. The board is a Foxconn FC51GM. Thanks!

Bobthelost is correct-----but memory speed wise assuming you have some flavor of ddr ram---and some software that can even need or use that much ram---when the 1 gig stick does a memory access and hands it to the stick of ram that crapped out at 512 MB---your computer will then have to use extra clock cycles because there is no memory address above that 512 MB.---but the chance of win XP getting up to the 512MB ram point in all four ram sticks is nearly nill.---and I suspect that even vista will not be that ram hungry to the point a slowdown could be measured in units greater than milliseconds per hour.

But it may still be best to put the 1 GIG sticks in slots one and two---and move the 512 MB sticks to slots 3 and 4.---or so goes the advice I have seen to put the higher capacity ram in the lowest numbered slots.

Thanks much Bobthelost! Good suggestion, Lemon Law, I'll do that. Gracias!
