RAM and Video Before Processor?

Can I put the RAM and video card in the mobo before i put the processor in? there is no power hooked up at all...i'm just gonna put some AS3 on the processor, pop it in, and put the retail heatsink on it for a while and test it......is the retail heatsink on the 2.53 any good? Thx

It doesn't matter what order you mount devices on the motherboard. Not sure why one might even think there would be. It's certainly safer to mount the CPU and heatsink first, given the amount of force that has to be applied in most cases, including the use of a screwdriver and possibly pliers. Better to have nothing mounted nearby that you might slip and break in half (beyond the motherboard itself of course).

The retail heatsinks on P4's appear to be quite good, most people are able to overclock quite well with the retail heatsink even.

I've never installed a P4 yet myself, so I don't know how easy it is, like compared to an Athlon. But it was designed to be easy and simple to do, and the particular arrangement of the lugs on a larger mounting unit would seem to indicate a little bit easier mounting than an older socket heatsink.
