Hello.. I havent been keeping up with PC technology within the past few years since I last upgraded. I have done quite a bit of research now and have found a system that I am looking at buying as soon as I can answer this question.

Anyway I would really appreciate if somebody could aid me. I am looking at getting:

Asus Crosshair AM2 nForce board
AMD Athlon 64 AM2 4200+
Leadtek Winfast GeForce 7900 GS 256MB

The problem is with the ram, I am looking at gettin 6400 and I was going to get 2x512 of Corsair but now I want to get 2Gig instead but cannot afford it in one go. Would it run well enough [similar to 2x512] if I were to get a single stick of 1Gig and get another 1Gig stick when I can afford it or is the jump between 2x512 and 2x1Gig not that big enough jump to worry about, which I believe it is though I could be wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did that in my AMD Socket 754 and it worked.
AFAIK, ASUS recommends slots A1 and B1 be filled with RAM and maybe it could work.
Try it and see if your rig will boot with 1 stick.

Thanks for the quick reply. I would do that if I could but it would be am expensive way to test it out as I do not currently own any of the hardware.
