Ram and game performance

Does ram bandwidth make a difference to game performance

Very little, i think in most benchmarks i've seen anywhere from 0% to 2% difference.

For your system the best upgrade you could do would be to upgrade that single core 3500+ AM2 processor with a nice X2 dual-core processor.

In most of the newer games out, that will make a much bigger impact than ram speed.

Quantity makes a much bigger difference than speed but even so after the 2GB barrier, most games see little gains.

You should prioritize your expenses when it comes to gaming like this:
GPU
CPU
special priority (like a mobo with a feature you want or for overclocking or a bigger hardrive, etc)
RAM quantity
RAM speed

The only reason where better RAM is a must is when you are overclocking since the RAM will take better FSB speeds without the need of using dividers.
