RAM a commodity

I'm trying to convince my friends that RAM is really a commodity, there really isn't any difference between 1600MHz C9 and 800MHz C6 in a practical standpoint. Sure you in theory get double bandwidth for double the price, but real world is practically within margin of error. I'm trying to come up with a good analogy, like with commoditys. But even commodity are being exploited, my bottle water is better than yours. I don't see why people even have debates on more ram or faster ram. Of coarse you want more, what do you want in the desert better water, or more water. Thats a pretty sad analogy really. Also I find it disturbing how bad loading time is for a lot of new games like NFS Shift or Torchwood. I have 12GB of ram, so I install the games on a RAM drive dispute even having an Intel G2. I find it barely dings the load time compared to my Caviar Black. So much for faster access to data helping much.

How about this:

Suppose you have a house and need 1000 gallons of water a month. Which is better: a provider that gives you 5000 gallons for $50, or 10000 gallons for 75$?
