ram - 3200 corsair - amd64 neo - max sticks?

Hey all.

i currently have 2 x 512 sticks of 512MB corsair XMS CMX512-3200C2, on a k8t neo mobo, with an AMD64BIT 3200 1mbL2 cpu.

I may of just made a big mistake, yesterday i ordered an extra 512MB ram, as my mobo doesnt have four slots, i thought 1.5GB would be best, also to keep latency low.) (1gb module timings suck). (so i would have 3 x corsair XMS 512mb).

But now i have been told that the memory has to be an exact match to work on most motherboards, (even though its same type of ram) i have also just been told that using all three slots up on an amd64 mobo may cause the memory to slow down to 333MHZ DDR.

Can anyone help, is this information true, will this ram work, or have i just wasted $160+.

Thanks in advance!

If your mobo has 3 slots then you can use all 3, does'nt matter if they match, but if you have Dual channel motherboard make sure that the 2 that are matched are i nthe right spots, and you should be fine.

Thanks, it isnt dual channel.

Its just i have heard a lot of people talk about problems with 64bit based system and over 1GB of ram on current mobos, and i dont want to go from 400-333mhz, hopefully this wont happen.

I too, have heard that the ram slows down to 166MHz (333MHz effective) when you use all 3 slots, or at least with nForce2 chipsets. I can't say anything from personal experience about A64 chipsets.

Page 2-11 of your User Manual shows the allowable memory configurations will work on your board. In a nut shell, you can not use three sticks of double sided SDRAM or it will slow down to DDR333. I'm not an expert on Corsair memory but I strongly suspect all your sticks are double sided.

Good luck.
