I've been looking to pick up a DVD-ROM drive for a while now and finally ran across what looks to be a great deal:

Raite AVBravo 8x DVD-ROM Drive

It's a new, bare drive, 8x DVD, 40x CD, with no cables but for only $6 UPS ground shipping, I haven't seen a better deal anywhere.

Here's the manufacturer's info on the drive: Raite AVBravo 108

This is a DVD DRIVE.

FYI here ... I just called CompGeeks and they are hella behind on filling orders .. approx. 4000 orders were placed since they had shut down over the holidays and relocated their facility. I ordered a sound card on the 7th and they are just NOW processing and sending items that were ordered on the 30th. This is a nice find but be prepared to WAIT !!!! :frown:

I thought that I saw a Creative DVD drive with video out, that is why I asked. Thanks for clearing it up.

Wouldn't the video out be on the decoder card that comes with the Creative DVD bundle?

Well, I just ordered it. Doesn't bother me if I have to wait, I wasn't in a rush to get it anyways. I figure if it sucks, $50 isn't too much to throw away. I guess I'll just have to wait, probably about a month, to find out.:p

BTW, does anyone know how if the MC discount works? I put it in, but I didn't see a 10% discount when I checked out. Is it something that is applied to your credit card statement?

Yeah, this is a bad time for CompGeeks. It took a LOT of hassle to get a refund on an item I purchased (took 3 weeks of me calling).

They have some great deals, but pray you won't have to return anything.

Is this the same drive as this guys are talking about?

>"I purchased 8 of the AVBravo 108H 5 of them would not >read cds and 1 would not read a DVD the other 2 seemed to >work for awhile and then 1 started only reading some cds >and not others"

>>I recently purchased a Raite AVBravo 108H Dvd rom. It >>worked fine after a two weeks. Now it cannot read any >>media dvd also cd rom disc.

Warning-I purchased a Raite DVD player (for TV) from CompUSA in April 2000 for a net cost of $100. It was the worst piece of cr*p I ever bought-would only run about 2/3 of DVD's I put in it and even on those it would run, it would noticeably pause at the end of each chapter. Picture quality was nowhere near as good as on the $130 Yamaha I replaced it with. Oh yeah, the POS died completely by October-just outside the warranty period.

The drive mechanism in my player was a Raite model RDR-102H.

Was a real, low quality item.

Hey Thump, are you interested in selling that busted out-of-warranty Raite? I have a good one and wouldn't mind having the spare parts, remote, etc.

Sorry, junked it in a post-Xmas fit of cleaning up the house. Only kept the power cord (God knows why, I got a million of them) and the drive unit-which I intend to try in my computer.
