LukFilm,
Where did you buy the H+ decoder card? Need one to work with a
Delta 12X drive from Staples($50.00). Would appreciate your response on this. Thanks.

ObviousMan,

Hmmm, I don't see the drivers at Luxsonor's website anymore but I think you can get them here:

http://www.compgeeks.com/drivers.asp

Get the drivers called 7160-alt3.zip. From the description, these sound like the WDM drivers. They were called WDM220.ZIP at the Luxsonor website.

Now, this archive should contain both the drivers and the player. The setup.exe program only installs the player (which is not really needed since installing the drivers will automatically install the Win2K DVD player application).

To install the driver you have to go to the control panel and go to the 7160 device and tell it to install/reinstall the drivers for it. Then point it to the location where you unzip the archive.

Warning: The WDM drivers aren't that good. The image quality is not as good as the Win98 drivers. There is a lot of aliasing effects (staircase effects). Since the Win98 Luxsonor Reference driver quality is very good with the Rage Pro, I am assuming this is the WDM driver's fault. I am still hoping someone will write really good WDM drivers for this decoder card...

Bottom line, this drive is POS! Firmware update does nothing. If you're lucky you'll get two months worth of use before the thing craps on you. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

CompGeeks was pretty cool about the return and waived the 15% restocking fee. Evidently, they are getting a few defective returns. My Toshiba 12X should here tomorrow - for less than $12 more I am happy to be getting an excellent one.

Well for $50 i'll take a chance and try it out. If it dies it will go back otherwise, it serves my purpose well.

StormRider, my decoder is refusing to play Region 0 DVD's I'm not interested in play some other region DVD's, but I thought that Region 0 will play anywhere (plays fine in my DVD player region 1). Is there a way to make this decoder play Region 0?

ObviousMan,

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Which drivers are you using? The Creative ones or the Luxsonor WDM ones?

With the Creative drivers (non-WDM), I am able to play Region 1 DVDs and the DVDs I get from Hong Kong. The ones from HK are supposed to be All Region DVDs -- is that the same as Region 0 DVDs?

I haven't tried many DVDs with the WDM drivers. I'll install the WDM drivers and check out the situation...
