I am going to plant tomato plants but need a raised soil bed. what kind of support should be around the bed to keep the soil in. I guess a large piece of wood that is 1 x 12 or more would do it. any other ideas?

My Father uses landscaping timbers nailed together for his raised tomato beds.

Any material will do. Most plants grow quicker with warmer roots & good drainage, but be careful that the roots are not over heat. Farmers cover the soils with white plastic so the roots aren't over heat, have good drainage and is warmer than ground level soil (plastic is the best material because it retard slugs that attack the plants.

I used 2 X 12 cedar, but that was 15 years ago, the price would be outta this world today.

"1 by" is going to bow a lot unless you do a lot of cross bracing. How big are you going to go?
