Raised Floor for basement... afraid of flooding..

I'm moving in about a month... I have a 12U Xrack that's going to be in the basement - previously 2nd floor.

I'm afriad of flooding, so I was looking to jack the unit up like 1-2 ft off the floor.. like using a ramp or some type of raised floor..

Should I bother with it or just get more insurance to cover the unit ?

A 2x12 and some 2x4's would be cheap and easy way to make a stand to set it on.

I have pretty much everything in my basement elevated. Some 2x4s and plywood is all it takes.

Raising the floor a couple inches isn't going to gain you much if the basement is at risk of being totaly flooded (i.e. four feeet of water). However, if you are concerned about small floods like sewer backup then go ahead and raise it. Or you could just move all your equipment in the rack to the top.

I built a riser for my home theater. It's pretty easy.

Get 2x8x8's.

then cut a few 2x8x8 to 46 1/2 inches Build a box with these smaller pieces on the end and inside the middle of your box/riser.

Take a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood and screw/nail gun it down.

Put studs every 12 inches if people are walking on it, every 16-20 if not.

Done.

he doesn't have a rack he has a rolling server IMO
on that note, ditch that cube and get a full height rack

Can you post a pic.. im interested in doing the same or similar, with a ramp...

my 12u rack is pretty full, so i can't raise the server higher..

oh I got that 2, 1 2post rack for equipment, but with the very little equipment, they'll stay like 4ft up.. just that rack for the servers... which is why i didn't post about the other stuff...

i got my xrack for free.. retail at 1500.. buying a rack just for home isn't worth it.. unless its free

i think building a little riser is good insurance for 5k worth of servers..
