Rainy Day Blues

Modeps

Lifer
Ah, quitting time and I'm runnin for the door,
Jog through the rain, dont like to get wet no mo'.
Jump in my car and turn the key,
Bastard up and stalls on me...

True story.

I'm turning the key, giving the gas, it's turning over as long as my foots pressed down and I'm not in gear... let off, stall. Put in gear, stall. 🙁 Comfort me. I'm at work now for another hour at least while Trip-A comes to save my stupid arse. Roger, I miss you. Help!

UPDATE:

Alright, tell me if I'm getting ripped off... Guy just called, and said it really needed a tune up, which was the cause of the IAC

$500 for IAC and Tune up and labor, plus tax.

I feel your pain. At least now you have a great excuse to start drinking right when you get home.

Or get some action from the lady. She's gotta come to my rescue and pick me up. She works one town over, thankfully... I just hope she gets my message before she leaves.

IAC motor maybe.

I have no idea what that means.

<-- not a car guy.
IAC = idle air control (name varies a bit sometimes)

Basically, it's a "valve" that lets air into the motor when the throttle blade(s) are closed (like at idle) so the motor will run.

So, at the very least, I'm out my car for a day or so?

If it is the IAC (I'm not 100% sure or anything) then it's a pretty simple job, so yeah, a day or two.

Edit: BTW, what kind of car?

It's pouring here today and my check engine light came on while I was driving home. Stopped and checked the oil level which was fine and kept driving home. Chances are some part of the emissions system is ready to explode.

On the Crown Vic, the IAC is a good call. I changed mine about 6 months ago. It took a whole 20 minutes. It could also be the throttle position sensor, which is even easier to change.

Lets hope it's one of those 'easy to change' dealies... I just bought a house and dont really feel like dumping $1k into my car.

Tow Truck guy said it sounded like a Throttle Sensor, too bad the shop that we brought it to didnt have a answering machine. 🙁

seems high, depending on part price. they use a standard on labor price and just look up in a book to see how much time it will take them.

How are we supposed to advise you when you can't even tell us exactly what he is replacing?

My buddy seems to think it's rather high... but they took all day to figure out what the problem was, so that's probably added to the price.

As mentioned above by the other guys, IAC. I didnt know what the C stood for, sorry.
EDIT: sorry, I was mistaken, Idle Air Control. I was kinda stunned at the price.

So it is the IAC motor? If that's all it is, then yeah, $500 is way high. The part itself is ~$50. Labor shouldn't be more than an hour or two really. The tuneup he wants to do is probably just changing plugs and wires, and spraying some FI cleaner into the throttle body.
