I keep telling everyone around me the wonders of Rain-X but none of them heard of it. But seeing how I'm in the SF area and I still have yet to see it rain since I came here, I guess that's expected. The same goes with umbrellas. People tell me that they don't buy them because by the time they need to use it, they already forgot where they put it. Crazy state.

I was once putting a coat of polyglycoat (one of those once a year polishes) on my car and got some on the windsheild.... so I thought "What the heck..." and did the entire window. It worked just like when I RainX'ed my winsheild, only it lasted about 5 times as long! I guess they work because of making the glass very smooth/slick/slippery.

Rain X also makes windshield washer Fluid,in Gallon jugs
they have a winter formula that helps to defrost/deice the windshield, and it works Great!!
the washer fluids they sell,Also coat the windshield, with the Rain X,in the Lazy mans style
that I like! ;) I just use it like normal windshield washer fluid, and after not too long a time...
The windshield has the rain x protection!!

I like rain-x for highway speeds. It also does a decent job of keeping salt spray from sticking because it rolls off before it has a chance to dry. I tried the fog-x product once, but the haze was very annoying. I found it easier to just run the defroster with the A/C to dry out the air inside the car.

I believe the fog-x said you can use it on bathroom mirrors to cut down on condensation when you shower. I tried it and was not happy with the streaks, plus it was not very effective.

Funny Rain-X story :)

When I was a wee lad, we were going somewhere in the family car during a rain storm. Being curious, I asked my dad what made the raindrops slide UP the window like they were. His reply? "Thats the anti-gravity generator for the windshield". Of course I believed him, because at that age, everything your parents say is true :)

I think he did tell me the truth a little later in the car ride when after some heavy thinking, I started to question the existance of said anti-gravity generator :)

i can't remeber who told me... but if you use rainx it makes it harder for a chip in your windsheild to be filled/repaired... just because the stuff they use dosen't stick well...

with that said... i just the windsheild washer fluid, a 50/50 mix with some prestone bug-b-gone fluid, works awsome all year around... hasen't froze up in -30 degree weather either :D

I like the beading effect, works as advertised. However, in the morning (dawn) it causes a horrible fog to appear on the windshield and it won't go away until the window is heated up enough. At least that's been my experience. And I've applied it correctly, numerous times on numerous vehicles. So, you have to wait for the defroster to kick in and do a good job or you drive in fog every morning. YMMV.

Yeah it's one of the few infomercial products that work. I even saw some used by some racers in professional racing. Doesn't kick in until 30-40 mph I seem to recall but then it does work wonders. I should put some more on but I hardly ever seem to get caught in the rain.

That doesn't really make sense - RainX is just a coating..it should wash off with soap/water, I would think..

Ummm.. I always thought that using your windshield wipers along with RainX just lessens the RainX effect sooner. I used to let RainX do its thing without wipers because I didn't want to undo what I applied, so I let it be. I stopped using it because it wasn't worth the trouble anymore. But think about it, doesn't it wipe off the effect/coating sooner if you use wipers with it ?

Actually Rain-x is semi-permanent. Once you put it on it's pretty hard to remove... you'd have to use something like Naptha (lighter fluid) or maybe a good glass polish like Zaino's clear view glass polish.

BTW for those of you that use Zaino you can apply the Z2/Z3 to the glass on your car just like you do on the paint. I havn't tried it personally yet but I've been told it works just as good if not better than rainx... without the possible side effects.

I already do, and it works just as good as rainx without the hassle.

Hmmm...perhaps I'll give it a try when I Zaino my car this week!

That's what I use. You can't beat the Z2 / Z6 combo.:)

Works great if you live in an area with there is a lot of ice or snow. Because it's a pain to apply correctly, I tend to only apply a couple of times just before winter. It helps ice and snow come off easier. Also, I love the windshield wash (can't find the original one anymore) and the windshield wash with de-icer. Well worth the extra price.

From the first time I used Zaino, I thought that Zaino was based on the same chemical that RainX is made out of.

yeah RainX rules. my g/f introduced me to that stuff. it's hypnotic to watch that stuff repel the rain:) don't concentrate too much on it or you will drive off the road.

A chip can be fixed before it becomes a crack with a kit they sell at auto parts stores. You fill the chip with a compound in a vacuum. They supply a syringe with a suction cup on the end to do this with.

Glass replacement shops usually do this for $20-30

My insurance(AAA) will cover this repair for free. They figure it's cheaper than paying for a new windsheild

Never tried Rain-X and never will, because I heard once you stop using it, you can't get it off after and it leaves streeks, the only way to get it off is to change the windsheild so I heard.
