I haven't played R6V, but so far I can say playing the campaign in GoW in Co-op is the most fun I've had with a console shooter like...ever.

enjoy it for all of the 6 hours it is... just finished and thought I was only 1/3 through the game and the game ended.. LAME and SHORT.

R6 = 10+ and MUCH harder and way better done...

not to mention shoddy multi in GoW which offers much less replayability

I thought GoW was extremely fun when set to insane, but casual and hardcore were pretty easy. Insane wasn't even that hard. When I hit the end of the train and reached the final boss, I didn't even realize it was the final boss until after I killed him. Talk about a big let-down. The game play was fun but wayyyyyy too short.

It's little things in GoW's multi that make me prefer R6. Such as not being able to change match settings without exiting and re-creating a whole new match. You can't even change the MAP!
The limited game types in GoW are also disappointing. While they are fun for now, I find myself already getting bored with them.
Also take note of how many options are available to hosts in R6 vs GoW. Weapon restrictions, respawn settings (5, 10, infinite or whatever), time limits, . How does GoW compare to that?

I like how on attack & defend missions you are sometimes going for an intel briefcase, hostages, or trying to defuse a bomb. It just makes for a nice variety.

There are also other "neat" additions to R6 which don't necessarily affect gameply but add to the experience. Being able to put your own face onto the characters, and to customize your armor/equipment and the camoflauge design make it more enjoyable for me.

It's probably due to the crosshair moving in Lost Planet. In most third person games, the crosshair is static.

Not sure, because all the 3rd person gives is a zoomed out first person view. I still think I wouldn't have any problem if I had a KB&M to work with :/. Although I think the cover system in R6V and GoW are better suited for the console unless my cover button is mapped to a button on my mouse ( probably RMB or MB4 ).

Sorry if this has been answered... but does the co-op component of R6LV include both local split screen and across Live? Also, does it encompass the entire game and not just a few levels (like GRAW)?

I haven't personally toyed with it yet, but when I was fiddling around in the menus it asked whether I wanted System Link, Split Screen or XBOX Live.

Rainbow Six gets my vote as well... I was NOT impressed with GoW for the hype, but I am so far loving Rainbow Six.

Yeah, I love having a full screen too, but sometimes I have friends over watching college football and we'll take a break from the football games from time to time to get some gaming in. So split screen is a definite plus in those situations.

Thanks.

I really want to play this game bad now after reading this thread, but I think someone is going to be getting it for me for Christmas. My wife asked me a few weeks ago if there were any games I wanted so she could tell relatives if they asked for gift ideas and RSLV was one I named. I was only mildly interested at the time, but now...

Give it a rent 😀.

EDIT: Or better yet, download the two demos.

yeah, i'd either rent it, or go ahead and buy it.

If someone gave it to me as a gift, I'd act surprised, then exchange it for something else 😉

I have both. I like R6V a lot more than GoW. Granted I am a long time R6 fan, back from the original PC game -- but Vegas is a lot different. It's not as tactical in regards to there is no team plan. However they've taken a lot of good points from the SWAT series and a couple of other things, and made a great overall game IMO.

Hmmm... that idea is now being taken into serious consideration.

Dammit, I don't have a 360, but the way you guys describe the games, makes me want one so bad.

then what is stopping you?

There are so many good games coming out right now for the 360 it's hard to find time to play them all 🙂

Actually, so far I absolutely abhor the first stage. It's way too long compared to every Rainbow Six game I've played (i.e. the originals). Also, I'm currently missing the heartbeat monitor :/. I used to assign one of me buddies to that badboy every mission I had and it certainly beat using the snake cam on every fricken room.

Also, it seems there's such a high reliance on your team mates in this game rather than YOU being skilled enough. In all of the previous Rainbow games I played, the most kills came from me, but I'm finding here that I cannot see any of the terrorists before my teammates do and they end up killing them before I can get a shot off (yet again, because of the lack of a mouse slowing down aiming speeds). Even using the thermal goggles or a scope to zoom in and sweep around, I end up missing tangos :/. Then there's the map that sometimes shows enemy positions near you. Note the sometimes.

I think I'll also be picking this up for the PC and noticing myself performing at least twice as efficient as when I get into bad situations ( such as finding "hidden" terrorists ), I can easily neutralize the threat without being hurt with the faster PC-based reflexes.

EDIT: If it weren't for acheivements, I'd just skip the console-hampered single player and go have fun killing people in multiplayer 😛.

I mostly leave my team hanging back a bit to cover me from behind. sometimes those sneaky terrorists like to flank me 🙂 I also dont' like sharing my kills..

Very much so! Especially after a quick skim of the achievements shows that there are some for amount of tangos killed. Although this may've been multiplayer and I just can't remember clearly.

I'd tell them to cover me more often, but like I mentioned, I simply cannot see the tangos half the time using any of the gear I have. I also dislike that since it is harder to aim, you have to rely on your team a lot for clearing rooms. Like when rescuing the hostages in the first stage (after losing once because I took too long... that pissed me off quite a bit), I didn't even get to shoot a single guy after I told my team to Smoke/Assault the room as they took out all 3 in seconds. Albeit this is probably for the best, but having all of my Rainbow Six experience on the PC (with the original, Black Thorn, etc), I'm used to detecting all of the tango positions, personally flashbanging the room and personally taking down all the tangos in the "proper" order.

I donno... maybe I'm just a bit annoyed that we aren't expected to do as much in this game as you were in previous games and it really is more of a team simulation than one man leading around a bunch of poorly-driven teammates.

Not me.. Im use them as the point men which is way more realistic..
team leads in reality are ALWAYS near the back of the pack on entrys..

and alos the fact they have multiple lives and I dont..

I never used the heartbeat in previous games..
this game plays ALOT more like SWAT 4 which was a better game than all the pervious rainbows which is why I love it so much.

the previous rainbows were a pain in the ass with the preplanning routes and crap and more more a lonewolf game which is completely unrealistic.

Bah, preplanning routes was unnecessary in the original games. You just have a plan in your head an execute it 🙂. The only thing you ever needed to do on those preplanning menus was set your (and your team's) gear to what you prefer.

Microcenter has a store in Irvine and Santa Clara. You can get a Premium 360 from them for $200 after a $100 mail-in-rebate and another $100 rebate for signing up with their in-store credit card.

Jesus, I finally beat the first stage in R6V... god knows how many times I died -_-. The stage is definitely too long for an introductory stage, especially when that arc of the story just cuts off. Although I did find a sort of "hack" or cheat in the game. If you run far enough away from terrorists, they will not follow and in fact, they will reset to their original positions. Now, from my experience, "far enough away" isn't a horribly far amount.. maybe 2 rooms away?

I still have a feeling that I'll enjoy the PC version a bit more. Time will tell 🙂.
