raidmax x1 temps

well on my vacation i decided to do some cable management ect for my case trying to get it to cool better. i will upload pics later but so far in this case my rig has seem to be on average 10c hotter than a coolermaster centurion. cable management is great and i have 2 120mm 1 intake 1 exhaust. and i have 1 80mm laying on the pwm because it gets up to 60c when in game. is there anyway to have better cooling or should i just get a new case?

specs:
amd opty 148 @ 2.5ghz w/ ac freezer 64 pro.
4 x 512 @ 228mhz timing 2.3-3-3-7
evga 7800gt @ stock w/ zalman vf700cu
1 250 maxtor
1 400gb hitachi
dfi lp ut nf4 ultra

idle/load temps

cpu: 38c/43c
vid: 45c/71c
pwm: 40c/50c w/ fan on it other wise 60c

Hmmm...mine runs very cool, I have an Opty 144 at 2.7 and only an Alpine 64 but I get 36/44C. Your vid card is also running pretty hot considering there's a VF700 on it. Go over your cabling. You should be able to run them so nothing gets in the way. I have the 24-pin power cable running near my CPU because my motherboard is ****** up, but that's it. Try stuffing everything behind the 5.25" bay, oppisite the window, then run the HDD cables down and into the 3.5" bay from behind......wow, I guess this case DOES like it from behind. Hope that helps, any questions and you can PM, if I can't answer them I'm sure RallyMaster can.

edit: You can try a nice wind tunnel in that case. Replace 3 of the 5.25" bays with a 120mm fan, that should bring air in, straight through the Freezer 64 and out the exhaust fan. The 80mm should be able to take care of the vid card.

hmm yes everything is stuffed behind the 5.25 bay except for the fan cords coming from the zalman and the 80mm on the board. i dont know why it gets so hot..i even have as5 on it..and its tightened down very well. as i said ill upload some pics when i get home from work

Ooh goody! Another person with the X-1!

First, turn the window over so that the 80mm is on the bottom. Make that 80mm an exhaust fan to get rid of the hot air from the video card.
Second, tinsnip/wirecut out all the fan guards for the intake 120mm and the rear 120mm. You should also get rid of the mesh and circle on the 80mm and use a wire grill instead.
Third (only do this if your temps do not improve after doing the above but highly recommended), install a 120mm via a Scythe Kama Bay or self mod into the bottom 3 5.25" bays. This will require you to have your case door opened 24/7. This provides a great amount of fresh air to both your Freezer 64 Pro as well as the power supply.

X-1s have very bad cooling when you first get it. The second suggestion is probably one of the best I can give you. The fan guard in front of the 120mm intake is absolutely horrible. It restricts airflow to the point of insanity. When it was on, I could barely feel the air flowing. As soon as I removed it, it almost tripled in airflow and showed nice drops in temperatures on hard drives (about 7 degrees on my Maxtors).

Search this section of the forum for RallyMaster's Cooling and you'll find pics of how I did my case.

Ya, I bought an 80mm fan grill and replaced it with the one included on the window 4C temp decrease, it was great and I think it got quieter too. I can't wait to cut out the 120mm exhaust grill.

Hehe, told you it would work.

Actually, you told me that replacing only the 80mm grill wouldn't do much, it helped a lot. ;}

Also, I left the circle on the 80mm fan....does it restrict airflow much? Cuz everything looks more professional with it on.

I don't think the circle on the 80mm makes much of a difference. I just removed it so that I can see more of the inside of the computer and not have a black circle that doesn't do anything for me.

I did not tape the edges of the holes but I did put fan grills on the outside of the exhaust 120 and in the front of the bottom intake 120.

I already have a 120mm fangrill from the PSU, it doesn't really need it so I can use that, the 80mm 2-pack cost 3.99. Definately worth it.

Well, the vent blocks it either way.....I need something to cut out the 120mm exhaust with, I don't know what now.

Yeah, I used a hammer drill to enlarge two of the holes, then I started snipping from those two holes. Tinsnips did it in about 2 minutes once you get the points in.

yes it did take about 2 minutes..now i have to work on video card temp..still hovers around 68 idle 🙁

maybe throw the zalman into 12v mode?

Hmm...try that. Then flip the window over, make that 80mm an intake instead of exhaust (unlike what I previously recommended). If it does not decrease temps, then you should try for a higher airflow fan in the front.

I think flipping the window and running it as an exhaust will fix that, that's what I have and it keeps my overclocked 7900GT at 41C idle.
