Nice deal. Would work for an older system, and I agree...Free is very good!

Thanks.

Don't see it in the link anymore and for a modern system 11a on the 12 volt line is pretty bad. Anyone trying to run even a moderate gaming system on that is gonna be in for a bad suprise.

Spotty reports on these indicate they're light, poor quality and not well suited to even systems using low 12V amps.

Free is GOOD, but I'd reserve this for a non-critical use, maybe a bench supply or something. Free power cord though, probably as good as any other cord.

I wouldn't use a Raidmax power supply if you gave it to me for free!

I've had to replace these in customer's systems all the time when they blow up.

The irony is that they put such tiny slits in the back so you can't see how empty it is, but with the marginal heatsinks and small TO220 transistors and diodes, and undersized caps, low-heat-tolernace cheap sleeve bearing fan, it needs even more airflow than a decent PSU would.

I have a 350W in the basement, brand new. Someday I'll get motivated and use the fan screws out of it. I suspect when the put the blue plastic connectors on the wire, they upgraded the label by 30W more, LOL. Blue makes it run cooler. ;)

Do not get these to 'upgrade' your sr1710nx with the '250 watt' power supply. That one pulls 14 amps on the 12v rail, and as a quality Delta unit will maintain that 14 amps under load. Specs on this one read like a 200 watt unit.

14 amps on 12v is the absolute bare minimum you'll need to run a modern low wattage AMD CPU and a 6600GT in a cool environment. 11 amps will only be sufficient for integrated graphics, geforce4ti or non-overclocked 9600pro, doubly so if you have an older, more power hungry (high clock rate AMD or socket 775 Intel) CPU.

Free is an awesome price, but ask yourself if you really need a 200 watt PS that has a non-zero chance of damaging other computer components.

I hate to thread crap, but power supplies are a *VERY* important component. IMO as important as the motherboard. Price is a critical consideration, but in this case I agree with another poster -- free is not a good enough price for a unit like this.

you all are missing the point. we dont care what you think of the power supply as we have already bought it. if we are using it, we are using it.

i bumped the thread to see if anyone else got their rebate, not for opinions.

just for the record i usea OCZ powerstream 520W SLI PSU. but free is free, how can you say no to that

I think not, you'd be missing the point that if you stopped using it now, you might avert a system stability or integrity (damage) problem.

Did you think we warn against junk for "fun"? No, there are reasons not to use it even if it is free or even if you are PAID to use it (if not paid enough I suppose). You can say no the same way you'd be wise not to drive 120MPH with a limited service spare tire on your car. say no same way you wouldn't use free dental floss to go repelling.

It's an acccident waiting to happen and they do not warranty any loss on your part, only the function of the PSU for it's limited warranty period... which because of aforementioned issues, is worse than worthless, like playing Russian roulette each retry.

It's only a helpful warning though, it's your gear and if you don't care then at worst it just adds to landfills. That is, unless you were using your system for something non-trivial.

I wouldn't use this unless I was given $100 to cover a component that will almost surely blow up when this unit does.
