RAID - warning given on error?

If I install a RAID controller and 2 HDs, will I get warned of any errors that occur, even if the RAID can correct the errors? I'd like to know this because I want some advance warning of any HD failure.

A good RAID controller will be capable of giving you such a warning, and enabling S.M.A.R.T. capability in the BIOS will also allow the system to monitor and warn you of potential drive problems...
