Just browsing around the web today and was wondering would a RAID subsystem be good for SOHO uses or even personal.
And what would be the cost for implementing such a system: SCSI or EIDE.

Unless you are doing it for the sake of doing it, then RAID isn't really worth it for a home user unless you go with mirroring for data redundancy.

Striping is fancy and all, but you double(well actually more than double) your chances of data loss. I already covered mirroring. And, striping + mirroring is simply too much for a home user.

Unless your home use consists of hardcore(no, not *that* hardcore!) video editing, you'll never really take advantage of the speed increases of RAID. The mirroring is nice if you really need to back up that much data, but backing up to a HD isn't exactly a smart way to go either.

Just an opinion from a non-enthusiast who follows the "Keep it simple stupid" school of thought.

I've got RAID0. ;)

It's pretty cool. I never benched my hard drives (Westen Digital 8MB SE's) seperately, so I couldn't tell ya how much of an improvement I get.

Quick responses. Thanks.

I use raid 0 that came with my mobo. Pretty quick.
Just never benchmarked them yet. cause of stability issues that i currently have (damn Heat).
I think it would be cool just to have and the such. Some time the future(not near future) I want to build a server for my home and RAID storage sounds cool .
