hello everyone, merry christmas. new poster here but have read these forums for a few years without a need to post because i usually find the answer by reading. The problem that i have is i get a lockup right at the end of the initial windows setup screen, after all the drivers load and i have installed the raid drivers from the floppy it just sticks when it says windows is now restarting. i have enabled all the sata raid options in the bios that i know of, and if i disable raid in bios windows installs with no problem. im using sata3&4 to connect the drives and have switched cables/power connecters around and it say healthy array during post. Is there a setting in the bios that im missing? a newer bios? non-compatable parts? Any help will be appreciated.

msi k8n neo2 platinum 1.4 bios
athlon 64 3000+ 90 nm w/ retail heatsink
1gb mushkin 3500 level 1 (in green slots)
2x maxtor 80g sata 7200rpm (connected to 3&4)
saphire ati 9800 pro 128mb
light-on cdrw 52x
old 4x dvd drive
500w psu(superflower i think)

*edit* now installing on sata 1&2 connectors. Why wouldnt 3&4 work? arent they better/closer to cpu?

I can't directly help you with the raid problem, but I just installed the same board and its all pretty fresh.

1) I'm not familiar with your ram, but if its double-sided and your trying to to run it in duel channel mode they should be in slots 1 & 3 (green and purple).

2) From everthing I've read, u should be using SATA connectors 3&4 on your MOBO.

3) You can probably get more specific help at the MSI forum. Goto the AMD64 Nvidia board section. http://forum.msi.com.tw/

Good luck

hiya, I have exactly the same problem:
2 x 36 gig raptors (RAID 0) installed perfectly on SATA 1 and 2, but of course I ran into the limited overclocking probs and moved them to 3 and 4.

the BIOS sees the array fine, but the XP install hangs at the end of the initial setup screen. (stock speed, with no other drives, cards etc attached)

Furthermore, as long as i have an OS installed on a single raptor on SATA 3 or 4, I cannot even get the OS to recognize the 2nd raptor anywhere (including a pci SATA card)

am so lost and wearing a hole in head from scratching it......
about ready to try ghosting a damn OS onto the array.

MSI K8neo2 platinum
3000+ 90nm 939
2x512 Crucial Ballistix
Enermax 600W
2 x 36 raptors
1 x 200 SATA (on PCI card)
3 x 200 IDE

(stable as hell at 2.6 GHz, although I cant seem to get the RAM to the speeds and timings I have seen elsewhere.....3-3-3-10 1T DDR480)
