raid question

I run a U2W SCSI3 hardware Adaptec Raid with 7 drives in a RAID5 array. At the OS level (NT4) I partitioned the space while installing - it just saw the entire array as a single drive. I set my C drive to be 4GB and left the rest as my D drive. Installed the OS to the C partition and the rest is for data.

Any benchmarks I run treat it as Drive C is a drive and Drive D is a much bigger drive.

BTW with the price of memory so low you can put a load of ECC cache ram on a hardware card and that will help a bit.

but do one thing.. when installing your OS (at least in NT4) turn off "delayed write", this is the feature where it waits until the ram is full to write you your hard disk. this feature can cause problems as the ram has info in it and the computer gets shut off. Thus losing all info in the memory. Also, your computer will never know it is multiple hard disks.
