Hey guys n' girls....
Well I'm on the edge of purchasing an MSI KT3 Ultra board - but I'm having a slight problem getting one simple question answered.
I'm into the Raid board simply because I want extra IDE devices....I'm a slave for schellacking several Gigs together as I'm not going to throw out my 40 or 20 gig drives cuz I get a 80 gig - the more Gigs, the better!
Anyhoo....according to an MSI Tech - the raid ports can ONLY be used as raid and not for snapping on extra hard drives. My question to you is - is that true? or did I ask him the wrong thing?
No, I don't want to throw my Cdrom or DVDrom on there - I know to put only a hard disk on the raid port - but according to him (his reply was disgustingly short let me tell you) as a matter of fact : "Dear Customer,
The onboard raid can only be used as raid hard drives, they
can not be used as regular ide hard drives. "
That was it.....
If that's the case I'd rather get another board or the cheaper Ultra or Ultra2.
Help me!
If this is so, then someone please promptly provide me with a great <110 alternative?
My requirements are simple:
1. Stable RAM performance in 3 - 4 slots
2. Thermal Diode Temp Reading (or some sort of FRY failsafe mechanism)
3. GOOD Onboard sound or none at all, also, NO Onboard Video....
4. USB 2.0
5. 3 - 5 PCI, NO ISA!
6. 4 - 8 USB
7. Recommend a raid board only if I can use it to put in extra hard drives. I'm not interested in Raid as a function.
8. Under $110 including shipping
.... hey, I can stretch for a couple dollars more...but no $150 boards!
I think that's about it.
Thanks in advance go out to all who help me.
Andy.
