Just to clarify (I also have a new A8V): Are the VIA controllers the two black SATA1 & SATA2 connectors to the right of the main VIA chip, with the Promise controllers being the orange RAID connectors below?

Also, I have a Plextor PX-712SA SATA DVD burner. Where does this connect if I have two SATA hard drives connected to the VIA controller? I understand that the Promise controller doesn't support ATAPI devices, so I assume this means I'll have to buy an SATA PCI card, unless I move one of my hard drives from the VIA to the Promise controller. Would I be better off returning the SATA DVD burner for a plain old IDE burner?

thanks...aa.

VIA = black connectors.

I don't think a SATA DVD burner works on a non-Intel controller, but you can try it... on both VIA and Promise.

Ironmanstl -- Thanks for the encouraging report. I'd read a couple of posts suggesting that better/more easily configured performance came when the hard drives ran off the VIA controller, but your experience has given me new hope :).
