Ok, i have 2x WD 40gb 7200 drives, and a WD 60gb 5400.

i want the 2 40's on raid 0, and 60 just for storage. I also want windows on the split 40's and to boot from them.

do i put the 2 40s on the same cable? or on separate RAID channels? and is it called a "RAID Channel"? like there is the primary and secondary IDE channels, but what is the nominclagure (sp?) of the RAID stuff?

let me know what you know

thanks alot

ok here we go... i might be wrong because im not a raid expert but if i were you id put the 2 40s on seperate channels with both as primary and have the 60 on a totally different controller instead... like your onboard. then just make your raid array the bootable one and install windows on it. :)

Ok, depending on the raid controller used you will not be able to have the 60 on the raid controller with the 40's in a raid setup. Also, from what I have read there really is no performance difference from having two harddrives on the same channels or seperate as master's. Common sense would have you put them on seperate channels as masters just to root out any problems that could and probably would happen. There really isn't any raid lingo, it's just an ide channel on a raid controller...

yes the correct nomenclature is channel, omit the raid .. and yes you definitely want to use seperate channels otherwise you will be defeating your purpose, to have concurrent i/o operations .. yes the 60 will need to be a completely seperate controller .. good luck ..

my board has 4 channels, 2 raid and 2 normal. is there a difference? does the bios just see 4 channels (therefore 8 drives?) or does it see 2x raid and 2x normal? When i put each of the 40s on a different raid channel, are they both master? How does windows know to install to both drives stripped instead of just 1?
