Raid explaination.

I want it to have a raid 0 and raid 1 setup (is this possible? 0 for speed and 1 for stability correct?).
I will need it to run several apps at a time without the hiccups. Visual Studio, SQL Server, ETC.
I will also remote desktop through it to other PC's so I'd like a stable system that I can count on being up and not slow.

Can someone explain to me (or link) the true benefits of Serial ATA HD, and the real world benefits of a raid setup. I have read that there is no point in raid for speed, and I have read that it makes a huge difference. No clue which is reliable.

serial ata has no advantage at all, but you might as well get it cause the cables look nicer and allow more airflow,.

raid 0 will offer significant performance increases in situations with lots of streaming data to or from the hard drive continuously. not sure, but i think those apps (specifically slq server) would benefit.

looks like you need a raid 5 or a raid 0+1 solution raid. i can't give good advise on what the actual best configuration is, so good luck.

Remember, Raid 1 does not replace a good backup strategy. It does protect you from a single drive failing, but if you have a finger check and overwrite a file or delete a file from the primary drive, exactly the same action happens on the second drive in the Raid 1 array.
