RAID drivers during XP setup

I'm setting up a new PC with RAID 0, using a P4P800 deluxe and 2 WD IDE drives on the VIA 6410 controller. Since I dont have a floppy drive and dont plan to have one, could someone tell me if it is possible to load the RAID driver during XP setup from a CD instead of a floppy?

I'm referring to the initial XP setup process where one hits F6 to load the RAID driver, upon which the floppy drive is accessed for the driver.

Thanks!

Unfornately Microsoft has screwed up, if XP doesn't have the drivers it needs for a IDE/SCSI controller card, it requires a floppy. I always have to dig a floppy out when using my other RAID card because of this goof by Microsoft. As far as I still know there is still no fix to get around it and Microsoft has no plans of fixing it.

Why oh Why can't the Floppy just DIE!!!

I hate the idea of using floppy drives.

My P4P800 deluxe manual says I can use the USB bus to force floppy emulation.

Quote:

"When set to Auto, USB devices less than 530 MB will be emulated as floppy drives and the remaining devices as hard drives. Forced FDD option can be used to force a HDD formatted drive to boot as FDD. for example, Zip drives."

Potentially, I could use my digital camera as a floppy drive after transferring drivers to the memory stick. Anyone try this?

Those are some interesting things to try. I hope you try them out and then report back to this forum. I am really interested in the results.

BTW I am certain a camera won't work as a floppy device, but a flash carder reader probably would work.

I am in the process of putting the PC together, the case arrives today from Newegg. Will post results once I have tried all options.

If all fails, I'll go out and buy that dreaded floppy drive...

Wish me luck!

Take a look at my reply in this thread, it might help you 🙂

I'm not too sure if you even need to make the $OEM$\$$\DRIVERS\IDE folder, but I did, and it didn't hurt anything 😉
