Raid Controllers

I've been looking at raid controllers. In the past I've had problems with Adaptec controllers dieing rather early. Though I've seen in the forums that LSI cards are having the same issues. The case that its going into is either the SuperMicro SC745 or SC743 so it will be all tied into a backplane. What raid cards might you suggest? The hard drive configuration will be 2 raid zero and 4 raid 6. If you need more information please ask.

With a 6 disk minimum, what is your price range. What interface are you looking to use (PCIe, PCI-X, PCI). If you have an available PCIex8 slot and are using SATA drives, I would definitely recommend the Areca 1220. Do you have a price range that you are trying to work with?

No real price range. I will be doing PCIex8 with whatever card I choose. I've not really decided on SAS or SATA either or will work for me. This is mostly for my own personal use.

Then I would definitely suggest the Areca ARC-1220. They are solid cards with excellent performance. Not cheap, but good RAID cards aren't cheap.

Will I need different cables other then the ones supplied with the retail card to goto the SuperMicro Backplane? Would rather know now instead of later that way I can purchase the cables at the beginning of the build.
