RAID controller

1x PCI SATA RAID controller Card. Uses a Silicon Image chip for RAID, works great, just don't need it anymore. Has 2 SATA ports on it, comes with driver disk. - $10CDN

I was looking at this classified. I have a motherboard that doesn't support RAID or SATA (Biostar M7NCD). Would this be a nice upgrade? Would this setup provide slower transfer rates than actually having a SATA connection on your motherboard? Thanks.

Wouldn't make a difference - SATA is 150mb, vs ATA/133 being 133mb. The new hard drives you would have to buy might be faster, though.

Connection is a total non-issue - on-board stuff is connected through PCI or PCI Express like everything else.

I just ordered a Raptor. Was considering upgrading my mbo to something with sata but I'm having difficulty finding one for a cheap price. I have an XP3200+ right now and won't be upgrading that anytime soon. Personal choice...dumb, maybe, but that's my choice.
