RAID controller cards, how does the setup interface look?

I know you can get a PCI Controller card, and attach a couple of HD's to it and setup RAID through windows. But how does the hardware RAID controller cards setup the RAID. Does it usually come with some UI for setting up RAID with the card? What if it was on-board like the ABIT KT7-RAID. I am just wondering what setting it up is like. Also are striping 0+1 cards affordable/reasonable, I am just a normal joe, looking for some added performance, maybe for some video editting. Thanks for the info.
 
You don't get RAID for performance, you get it for redundancy so you don't lose valiable data. As far as the ?UI goes it depends on the board. Some have BIOS like interfaces that you get into before the OS loads and others you can use while running the OS...
