Raid changing motherboards..

If I bought a mobo with raid now and put in 2 hd to raid 0, how easy would it be to change mobo to a different one, or to different OS's??
Once the Raid array is created, can you switch hds to a new mobo without losing all the data?

I know that I would probably upgrade in about 2 years or less and then I would have alot of data.
Would it be smarter to back up to other drives or just plop them into a new mobo cause I would have to have alot of storage space ready?

I plan on getting the Abit KR7a-Raid with 2 x 60Gig hds in Raid to go along with my other 2 hds.

I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure you have to re-create the RAID array which means data loss.

Unless the RAID controller on the new motherboard is the same, all data created on the old RAID setup will be useless. Another thing is drives used in a paticular RAID array should have the stripe set removed via the controller's BIOS setup before disconecting the controller for the last time as the RAID partitioning/formating is difficult to remove from the drives after the fact. When I say difficult, FDISK cannot remove the small controller partition placed on a stripe set drive, only a low level format will.
