Raid Card Recommendation

Price/Performance I would go Perc 5, Otherwise the Perc 6 runs nice as well. More details of what you would like would be helpful, which RAID level, BBU?, Cache?, wanted/expected throughput, etc..
 
My only experience with PERC controllers is with those bundled with Dell servers but that's enough for me to avoid them like the plague.
 
I have an Areca-1220 in the same mobo with an opteron 185. I have 4 x 1tb on raid 5, and 4 x 750's on raid 6.

I can just about flood GB Ethernet on reads, and writes are not far behind.

I use it mainly for large movie files. I run win2k3.
