Hello,

Thanks in advance to everyone,

Ok, I got 3 HDs; 1WD raptor 72gbs and 2 HDs 500 GBs (all Sata)

here is what i would like to do.
i wanna install Win XP 32 & 64 bits edition on the Raptor.

Then i wanna set up a raid array mirror for the 2 - 500GBs HDs.

I want that array to either work under win 64 or win 32

is this feasible?

If so, how should i proceed?

BTW, I don't have a floppy drive and my MB is a MSI GD70
 
You'll have to use a hardware raid card, software raid won't work for this setup. Other than that, instantiate the RAID system and make a dual boot like a normal system, though you may need to use a floppy drive and F6 the RAID drivers in.
 
You don't really have a choice where you create the array since Windows clients are crippled in that they won't let you use any redundant levels of RAID. So you'll either need a floppy disk with the drivers for the controller or to slipstream the driver into a new XP disc before installing.

Although I'd skip the dual-boot, there's no reason to have both 32-bit and 64-bit XP, just pick one.
 
you could use win7, as it supports software raid 1. At least the RC does. Also, win7 and vista allow installation of raid drivers via USB drive now, which is cool.
 
You'll have to slipstream RAID drives for your motherboard into an XP install for the XP install to recognize your RAID array from the onboard SB750.

Vista and Win7 install allows for using USB storage to browse the file system for the drivers, but unfortunately, for XP, it's a bit more complicated.
 
to say in this case lets say.

i put one hdd for OS which is in sata port 1

the 2 other hdd's put in sata port 2 and 3. but how in this case are you supposed to run raid?

install the raid drivers from the mobo i'm guessing then select the option for raid 0... i think thats correct or am i mistaken?
 
hmmm,

just curious,

if the OS drive isn't part of the array, can't i just install the raid drivers afterward?

Or do i still need to first install the raid drivers via F6 before i install the OS ?

I've installed XPpro now. Can you tell me what to do next to setup the array ?
(always keep in mind i have no floppy drive)

 
Install RAID drivers from your motherboard driver disc or download them from the internet. The floppy disk is only necessary during Windows Setup. When you're in Windows proper, you can install the RAID drivers like you do any other driver.

You have two different controllers capable of doing RAID, to load the correct driver, make sure you double check the manual for which SATA ports belong to which controller.

Yes but it says it's for the southbridge 700, will that work anyway?

If that's your board, those are the drivers that will work. One controller is ATI, the other is JMicron.
 
i've downloaded it, but it says they are to be put on a floppy. There is no *.exe file to install the drivers from the zip.
