RAID array and replacing drives?

I heard that you can increase the size of a mirrored RAID array by doing this:

Take one of the drives out, replace with a bigger drive, let it rebuild.
Then, after that is done, do the same with the other drive. After rebuilding, the array now be the larger capacity.

i've never tried it but will it work?

Assuming it works, the drives in the array may be larger, but you'll still need to expand the partition to use the increased space; which may or may not be feasible. I'd probably use a Gparted LiveCD or something similar.

If this is the system drive/partition, you'll need to boot in to the recovery console or something like a Gparted LiveCD to extend the partition.
