RAID 1 w/ external HDD

I'm looking into buying 2 Seagate FreeAgent (500gb) external storage drives. Is it possible to mirror them? Would this be too much work? I'm just looking for redundancy to my daily backups.

1. Get two FreeAgent Extreme drives.
2. Install a RAID card with two extrenal eSATA ports.
3. RAID the FreeAgent Extreme drives in a RAID 1 array.
4. Celebrate your accomplishment.
