Raid 1 to Raid 0?

TKHDebater

I have 2 500gb drives setup in Raid 1 but no longer really need the redundancy and could use the extra 500gb. Can I go from raid 0 to raid 1 without having to start over?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Some RAID controllers can do this. It'd help to provide the make/model of your RAID controller.

What about breaking the RAID 1 array and making the drives separate? You'd have the same total capacity, but considerbly lower risk of losing all the data due to a glitch (or more) in the drives.

It's the RAID controller built into my DFI Lanparty P45 motherboard... I'll read the documentation for it and see what I can find. It's helpful to know there's at least a possibility.

I hadn't thought about just making the drives separate, seems obvious now. Thanks, I'll probably just do that if the controller doesn't support going from 1 to 0 until I do a wipe for Windows seven.
