RAID 1 on my Gigabyte motherboard- Need Help

So I just got my computer setup on this mohterboard with Raid capabilities:

Anyone know how to go about doing this? I think the board has Marvell raid controller, and maybe an intel one?

If I have an SSD for the OS, would I then still use the AHCI setting, or does it need to go to IDE? The drives I'm planning on using will be SATA drives.

Any tips for a Raid newbie appreciated.

If you're going to be running an SSD in AHCI mode, you'll need to set up the RAID via windows by going to the disk manager.

So does that mean that windows is then managing the Raid and not the mobo? Sorry i'm totally new to Raid array configurations.

Would I be using the Marvell Sata ports, or others on the board then? 3GB/6GB SATA III

I can't answer your first question, but use the Intel 6GB SATA III ports and stay away from the Marvell ports 🙂

Correct, windows manages my RAID0 and I have no problems. 😎

I hope you purchased disk drives approved for RAID on that controller. RAID puts extra demands on disk drives and many will not work well in RAID for long.

If you want to know why about RAID, I suggest you seek out articles on RAID such as those found on the disk drive and RAID controller websites.
I have used RAID since it was first introduced in SCSI but a forum like this is not a good way to learn about it.
