Hey guys...I am new to the boards...

Just a question about Raid 0. Is it possible to do one with different sized harddrives? I am thinking about getting a mobo with a RAID controller on it (ie. MSI K7T266 Pro2 RU). What would happen if I had 2 drives, 20 and 40 GBs respectively? I read that with Raid 0, there is no space lost, but I don't get how the disks are striped with different sized drives. Also, what if the drives have different rpms?

Thanx

i strongly advise against doing this. because you will lose the extra HD space. if you get a 20gb and a 40 and do raid 0, you will get a one 40gb raid 0 drive. thus loosing the extra 20gb that you should have. try to make them the same brands too. same exact everything. :) if they have different speeds, that can be a pain. it will only be as fast as its slowest drive. and it will only be twice as big as your smallest drive.

Welcome to the forum! I believe you will lose 20 gb of storage if you use RAID-0 with those drives. Your best bet is to buy 2 of the same model. Do a search for "raid" and you will learn more than you need to know.
