RAID 0 Set up in XP

😕Was trying to set a RAID config on my machine Sets up fine in BIOS but when i go to install XP HOME it doesn't recognize my SATA drives ever after pressing F6 and installing the new drivers. I am currently running an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe motherboard and am trying to stripe in a SATA Seagate 80gig HDD and a SATA Western Digital 80gig HDD. I keep getting the message that windows can't find my HDDs.HELP

For a proper RAID0 setup, you want to use two identical hard drives or you may see some weird corruption issues. If you still want to forge ahead with the RAID, you have to enter your RAID controller's BIOS and set up the stripe set there first. What motherboard or RAID card are you using?

I am using two 80gig SATAs on is from seagate and the other is western digital. I have set the RAID in the BIOS and the computer recognizes it but when I go to install XP it can't find my HDDs even after pressing F6 and installing the new driver. I am using an ASUS P4P800 Delexe board with on board SATA plugs.😕😱

if i'm not mistaken , i remember hearing somewhere that it is best to install windows normally and then build the mirror after the install is done.
I recall people getting corruption by installing the o/s in raid on their promise controllers.
maybe?

Read it again, he's building a RAID 0 array.

gmarshall: Have you built and verified the array in the RAID BIOS? You may need to perform a full build rather than a quick initialization.

OK, First I disabled the VIA RAID setting on the onboard device in the BIOS . It was looking for standard IDE devices and I was installing SATA HDDs. Then after hunting about on the ASUS download site I finally foun the correct driver(they could make that a little simpler!). Then, in the BIOS I set the IDE configuration I set the OnBoard IDE Ooperate Mode to enhanced, next switch the Configure S-ATA as RAID to yes. And lastly, this is the part that wasn't in the manual, it has an option to make the RAID bootable and it has to be set to yes or it just didn't work. I rebooted and and had it load from the CD and when the time was right I pressed F6, installed the right driver, and away it went. Now though I just noticed that my P4 with hyper-threading, isn't. I am only seeing one CPU on the device manager screen. Any thoughts? I installed a test of Service Pack 2 from Windows heard anything about it?😀

Thanks, that's good to know.

If you're only seeing one CPU, it's more than likely that HT is actually turned off in the BIOS- are you sure it's on?

What kind of errors have people been reporting with Promise Adapters and WinXP? My Raid 0 tends to crash on me every week or so... I get a HD error in my WinXP log and my system boots up with the RAID BIOS saying that my Array is off line... I have to reset my system and all is ok.

I thought that I had a problem with one of my Drives.

It set in the BIOS Hyper-threading enabled, so I don't have any idea what the trouble might be. Worked fine before RAID, now it doesn't and I haven't any other idea what it might be. Anyone?:frown:

In Task Manager I only see one. Now I was running a little overclocked, about 3.15ghz, but I don't think that it dammaged the proc. if it did I wouldn't have any thing working at all.:frown:
