RAID 0 Boot & OS or storage? Where to put WinXP swap file?

I'm not interested in the ongoing debate as to the effectiveness of RAID 0.

Given the choice in a media server, would it be better to use 2 SATA drives configured as a RAID 0 array for the operating system or for media files?

I will be using an IDE ATA 133 (7200) HDD for the other half of my configuration?
SATA drives are 80GB for RAID.
IDE will either be 120 or 160GB.
All drives have an 8mb cache.

Suggestions on swap file placement also appreciated.

I can partition the IDE drive and have storage for audio files.
I'm wondering if streaming VIDEO (mpeg2) across a home network would benefit from a RAID 0 array for storage.

also: would the OS (if installed on the IDE HDD) benefit if the swap file is placed on the array.

1. not unless you plan to stream more than ~40MB/s on a gigabit network.
2. typically, you would install the OS on the raid array, but if you dont, placing the swap file on another, faster drive than the os drive is usually a decent idea.

you really should reconsider raid if you are really considering raid 0 as a storage option... on a home media server to boot...😕

I'll span the two drives for storage, instead, and put the swap file in its own partition.
