Rage Fury Pro / Asus P3V4X

Anyone had any experiences, good or bad running these two in combination. Here is the story:

Originally, when I built my system, I bought a Rage Fury Pro 32MB AGP for it because:

- video in/out
- 4x AGP
- somewhat (at the time) decent 3d performance
- retail box with 5-yr warranty and a nifty rebate
- good experiences with ATI in past
- like to support Canadian

However, I could not get the board to run in 3d (and barely stable in 2d). Thing would just lock up. This was in the time of the unsupported beta drivers. Various freezes, troubles installing / uninstalling drivers / etc. I tried AGP 4x, 2x, 1x, boosting voltage, drivers from that rageunderground site, etc. etc. When I noticed in the driver information that the video chip was being reported as a PAL unit rather than NTSC I returned it. This experience caused me to say "never will I buy ATI again". I went out and got an Asus TNT2 Ultra (no video...oh well...) Worked (and still does) great.

Now a friend of mine wants to buy my P3V4x and, wouldn't you know it he has the same card. He is on limited budget and just would not be able to afford another card.

Short of ripping apart his system and trying it all out...comments on current status of these cards / drivers would be appreciated.
