How did they make such an enormous jump in game and image quality.
They must have some great people and design tools.
Incredible. I really want to play this game.

ID Software’s engine that’s how. They are using the same engine as Doom (2016) with some updates.

Indeed, it is more or less the same engine as IDtech 6. Wolfenstein new colossus looked incredible but this looks even better. Was wolfenstein new colossus not running IDtech 6.5 or something ?
I think with doom and wolfenstein they went for minimum hardware requirements and it showed in how smooth those games play . I think that for this game they will up the hardware requirements a bit.

According to this article it is not the Idtech 6 engine.

https://ps4pro.eu/2018/05/22/rage-2-is-not-using-id-tech-6/

A surprising twist: RAGE 2 isn’t using the engine seen in DOOM and Wolfenstein II: The Old Colossus.

Christopher Sundberg, the Avalanche Studios boss (Just Cause, Mad Max) confirmed on Twitter that RAGE 2 is using Apex, Avalanche’s open-world engine. That’s weird, because Avalanche co-develops the game with id Software, from who they could have easily borrowed id Tech 6 (and since they made that engine, they’d also receive the know-how as well… and the first RAGE used the previous id Tech engine iteration).

So, Avalanche won’t have to learn the tricks with the engine (as they use their proprietary one), but they still have to do a few things not to make us look at RAGE 2 as a love child between Borderlands and Mad Max – we are not impressed yet.

RAGE 2 will launch next Spring on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s likely going to launch in March to fit into the current fiscal year.

The first one had solid shooting mechanics and interesting enemy variety with good AI that made the core gameplay very fun, as one would expect from id software. The driving minigames were quite enjoyable, though traversal quickly became boring. The story was entirely forgettable, and the pacing was awful. The game ended on a whimper as well. This one looks intriguing enough to keep an eye out for what improvements they bring, and since this is being handed by Avalanche and their own engine that they used for Just Cause 3.

I enjoyed the first, even with all the bugs. It got slammed in reviews though. I'll get the second as well going by what has been released so far.

I like the 1st one. Sure it had some bugs and graphical issues but it got sorted out.

Plus it had John friggin Goodman in it as a voice actor. Bring the man back. Love him...

Not only, but also the best GamePLay Trailer I had seen, including a catchy original blues tune and a great sense of foreboding generated in a such a short period of time.

Apothesis, the great God of Chaos
Raised his mighty hand
And both the Just and Unjust
Felt his wrath.

Great stuff. I lost the game years ago but still have the Trailer here somewhere.
