I watched this documentary years ago on TV and thought it was long lost.
And here it shows up on youtube.
Radium City is about the women that worked painting clock hands with radium in the 1900's. Radium is radio active and glows in the dark. Most of the factory women, if not all, died terrible deaths from cancers and other health issues from radium poisoning.

The women painted the small clock hands with the glowing radium. Because the clock hands were so small and hard to paint with a brush, the women were told to "wet" the tip of the paint brush with their tongue to keep the brush tips pointy.
They did, and eventually all got radium poisoning, becoming ill in later years.

It happened everywhere in the western world during the 1900s.


In many countries in Europe, soap, lotion, toothpaste and shoe polish were sold containing radium.

The notebooks and research papers from the Curies, are still today highly radioactive because they where unaware of the dangers of radium...
